Saint-Malo is an exceptional destination for anyone seeking a truly enriching French immersion experience. This historic seaside city, perched on the northern coast of Brittany, is famous for its corsair (privateer) past, its majestic granite ramparts, and its vibrant maritime atmosphere. Walking through its cobblestone streets feels like stepping into a living museum—yet one filled with modern energy, warm cafés, and stunning ocean views.
A French immersion trip in Saint-Malo offers an unforgettable combination of learning, exploration, and authentic cultural discovery. It is the perfect setting to improve your French while embracing the charm and rhythm of Breton coastal life.
The immersion trip consists of:
- 30 hours of French Classes with Alliance Française Saint-Malo (3h/day)
- Group class maximum 12 students
- Accommodation in a host family, 14 nights with half board: room (breakfast and dinner)
- Three cultural activities per week

Optional:
A Weekend trip, "Landing beaches: Understanding D-Day and the Battle of Normandy through places of memory."

Group Immersion Trip to Saint-Malo
This immersive trip to Saint-Malo is offered in partnership with the Alliance Française de Saint-Malo who has 10 years of experience in immersion trip.
Immersion trip: $2,700 per person
Payment Schedule:
Due March 28th: First installment $1,000
(Optional weekend trip available at this time)
Due June 27th: Second and last installment:
- $1,700: Accomodation in family
- $2,600(*): Accomodation in hotel (*) price subject to change
French classes and cultural guidance led by experienced local instructors with deep knowledge of the region.
A full immersion experience designed for learners from A1 to C1 (not complete beginners) that can be adapted .
Two representatives from the Alliance Française de Detroit will accompany the group throughout the trip, providing support, answering questions, and encouraging additional French practice in daily situations.
Opportunities to explore the history, culture, and daily life of Saint-Malo while using French in authentic contexts.
All participants motivated by an immersive French experience are welcome.

Once you made the payment for first installment, you will have a message with your receipt and two links :one is the registration form to fill out , the other one is the waiver to sign and email back to afd@afdetroit.org
• If you cancel before March 15th, 2026, the deposit will be refunded less $100-per-person
• If you cancel after March 15th, 2026 , the deposit will be refunded less $100 if we find someone to take your place.
• No refund after March 28th.
• In case Alliance Française de Detroit needs to cancel the trip a full refund will be provided.
From Detroit Airport you will fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle Etoile
Then you will need to reach the train station " Paris Gare Montparnasse"-
Uber/Taxi is an option for the transfer from Paris airport to the train station, but more expensive- RER (local train) that you can take at the train station located inside the airport will be the most cost effective. We may help you since two person from AFD will do the trip as well.
From Paris Gare Montparnasse to Saint-Malo, you will take take the train- to make your ticket reservation -use: https://www.sncf-connect.com/ 1 to 3 months in advance you should be able to make a reservation at a better rate.

Family homes are spread in the city- You will have a bus access , all city quarters are 15 to 20 minutes from the Alliance Francaise.
A questionnaire will be available for you to share special request. Alliance Francaise of Saint Malo will do their best to find a family for you.

Once the Alliance Française Saint Malo will receive the reservation and lodging preferences from us, they will contact the residence hotel, but it is possible that the residence hotel can not accommodate everyone . If it is the case other hotel options will be offered (prices may be modified as well).
The Alliance Francaise de Saint-Malo will email you a calendar to take an appointment for an online test.
One of the objective of the immersion trip is to be more comfortable with the oral language . Yes , lesson will focused on interactions .
We do not know for sure , but most likely yes, it is currently planned for the last quarter of 2026.
