Le Nain Rouge, which is French for The Red Dwarf, is Detroit’s very own creepy creature mascot based on a legend that takes roots in the 18th century and has most likely both French and Native traditions wrapped up in it. Some think he provides a warning when bad things about to happen in Detroit, others think he is the cause of the bad things.

The Marche du Nain Rouge is a costumed community parade in which the creature is traditionally chased out of the city. The Marche is traditionally around March 20th and starts from 2nd avenue and Canfield to end at Masonic Temple.

Alliance Francaise de Detroit /French Institute of Michigan took part of the parade this year and the four past years.
