Library Terms of Use
Our library is open to everyone, adults and children of allages. To check out books from our library, you need to be registered as amember or as a current student of the Alliance Française de Détroit/FrenchInstitute of Michigan.
Registration to the library gives access to a collection of books, magazines, DVDs, and comic books in French as well as to the Culturethèque e-library in French.
If you are notcurrently a student of the Alliance Française de Détroit/French Institute ofMichigan, you must become a member. Note: Children under 18 must be part of afamily membership or student of AFD/FIM.
As soon as you become a member, you will be entered in our data base of members. As a member, you will have access to the library’s collection of material including the Culturethèque e-library in French, receive invitations to our events and programs, and benefit from a membership fee at our events. Membership is good for one year from the date of registration.
- Have your member ID with you and your TinyCat password. You’ll get your Library Cat password at first time book borrowing
- Use the provided ipad and click on Tinycat icon
- Look up the item you want to borrow in the search bar
- If the item is available, select the checkout option, then enter your Patron ID (or member ID) and password and click on “sign in”. Confirm the checkout
- Do not forget to sign out to prevent misuse of your ID.
Book can be borrowed for one month. DVDs: 14 days.

Library materials may be renewed by phone (248) 538 5440, by email at alliancefrancaise@frenchinstitute.org or in person. Popular items may only be renewed one time, providing there are no holds on the item. You will be prohibited from checking out materials if you have overdue items on your account.
Borrowers are responsible for all materials borrowed from the library. In case material is past due, a late fee of $1.00 will be charged and a $ 0.10 per day and per material will be charged. Payment is due the day material is returned to the library. Invoice may be sent if material is overdue.
Minor Damages: Item can be returned to collection for repair. A $2 repair fee will be charged at user’s expense. - Replacement: Item cannot be repaired or is lost; it will be replaced at user’s charge at current market value when available or average cost for similar item in the same classification, whichever is higher.
